Earlier on Friday, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a hundred in Australia. It was his second hundred in Tests since his debut in England last year.

Pant, however, was not merely satisfied with a hundred. He had faced criticism for his rash strokeplay at times but Pant showed he was ready to improve gradually during the Australia series.

Pant's resilience meant he joined Budhi Kunderan (192), Nayan Mongia (152) and MS Dhoni (224) as only the fourth Indian wicketkeeper to score 150 in Test cricket. Incidentally, three of those four innings (Mongia, Dhoni and Pant) have come against Australia.

Budhi Kunderan's 192 came against England.
Pant is also the first wicketkeeper from Asia to score over 200 runs and affect more than 20 dismissals in a Test series.
Pant had grabbed headlines since his exploits for India in the under-19 World Cup before making waives in the Indian domestic circuit. His performances in the Ranji Trophy meant Pant was handed an India cap. In 2018, he was Delhi's best batsman by far in the Indian Premier League.

Pant was named in the Test squad for the England tour and replaced Dinesh Karthik after the latter's poor performances. Rishabh Pant grabbed his chances with a sterling hundred in only his third Test.
In the two-Test series against West Indies at home, Pant was dismissed for 92 twice.
In Australia, Pant got starts every time he walked out to bat. After scores of 25, 28, 36, 30, 39 and 33, Pant unleashed some breathtaking strokes to blast his second hundred before proceeding to create history.

Thanks to his sensational innings, Rishabh Pant (350) is now the second highest run-scorer in the series, behind Cheteshwar Pujara (521) and ahead of Virat Kohli (282).
